Solder Paste Trial

I am thinking on testing or possibly changing my company's solder paste brand. Anyone have any suggestions or hints on how to cover all my bases before making such a bold move? Present paste used: Alpha WS-629 Paste to trial: Multicore OA Sys WS-22.

Make sure you check the MSDS for the new paste. If you have more than one production line, I'd suggest a gradual changeover. One selling point for management would be the free training Multicore will give you for the switch. If you haven't already compared the pastes performances, do normal chemical testing (viscosity, solderability, solder ball, copper mirror/halide, etc. . .) and, if possible, run half of a build with each paste and compare defect data. I've conducted several paste evaluations, including a 20 month, 15 paste eval, so if you need any more help, please feel free to contact me @ jasongr@nortelnetworks.com
