How much it costs to building a PCB factory? | 5 February, 2017

Hi If I want to build this board :( http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/ima...-Schematic.pdf ) in large number, I like to know: 1-What should be the minimum level(number) of production? 2-How much it costs to buy the PCB product line for that purpose(Multi layer board) and assemble it(Peak and Place machines)? 3-How many square meters space do I need at least? 4- May you list what machines do I need?

I know it's very big question but hope you help me as much as you can! Very thank you in advanced!

Well for starters your link doesn't work. However let us assume you are linking to something resembling a RapberryPi. That is a high density modern PCB design that uses small, fine pitch components on a double sided multilayer board. The minimum level of production will depend a lot on what you spend on your production line. A typical basic production line for a product like that would go something like: Destacker->Printer->Paste Inspection(which might be a feature of the printer)->High speed placer (for all the little parts)->Accurate Placer(for your BGA Processor,RAM,eMMC and big things that don't fit in the high speed)->Reflow oven->AOI->PCB stacker All of this would be connected by short lengths of conveyor and could also include extra bits to get round corners etc. So $20-30K for the parts to move the PCBs around, $60-100k for the printer,$500k for the placement machines +feeders another $60-100K for the oven and $30-100k for your AOI (depends what you want to it to be able to spot). On top of that you might also want to equip your factory with X-Ray inspection and rework facilities. And of course you need somewhere to test hundreds of these at once. And different people approach testing different ways. In addition there are some parts you might want to hand solder or even selective solder with a machine that means people & space or another machine Then you need somewhere to store and prep your parts, spare feeders etc. You don't necessarily need a huge space for all that but it all adds up and things like placement machines often need quite a bit of free work area around them for swapping feeders/trolleys in/out etc. That line could easily be 25m long and 5 wide and there are some compromises there, the two sides of the board are typically done in two separate passes, that means your line has to switch between two jobs (top and bottom) and that could mean some parts coming on and off the machine (depends what there is room for) repeatedly. In addition the "accurate" machine probably has very little to do on the simpler bottom side so it is in some ways, wasted. For maximum efficiency you might want two lines, but now you are really scaling up volume. without a detailed BOM its hard to say for sure but a line like above probably places 30k+ components/hour on a board like that - which could be 100's or even 1000's of boards/hour. That is way too many for lots of people and less than that requires a different approach, rather than two placement machines you can have one bigger slower all purpose machine (Europlacer or Mycronic being prime examples), the slower rate will mean your Oven can be shorter but you still need all the other bits. Really however your question is backwards you should be asking what would I need to build x units/week. I could easily spec a fairly fast line with 2nd user machines that could make those boards for under $200K or new stuff for $1M+. Equally I could probably just about spec a slow line with new machines that comes in under $250k but you'd have do without some bells and whistles like AOI.

So,

do you want to produce the bare multi-layer PCB yourself and then assemble the parts as well?

Hi rezaee, Spoiltforchoice answered your questions based on the equipment & investment required during the PCB manufacturing process. Well, running a PCB Factory also involves equipment maintain fee, material fee, production cost (including quality control, disposal and environment effects), human power expense, factory space expense, etc. The total cost will be way out of your expectation. I recommend you submit the job to a experienced PCB House whether you're looking for long-term PCB manufacturing or one-time mass PCB fabrication.

You can do some research on PCB manufacturers based on your project's requirements, budget, schedule, etc. and place a test order (small Qty of circuit boards) to see whether if this manufacturer can perfectly meet your expectation. Once you're fully aware of its manufacturing capabilities, reliabilities, you can rest assured to submit your future pcb orders to them.

In case you changed your mind and want to find PCB production partner, we're a China-based custom PCB manufacturing and assembly services provider for worldwide companies of all sizes with 10+ years' experience. We're committed on the quality & performance of each board we make. Feel free to check and get free quotation at http://www.pcbcart.com

I'm puzzled how many people spent time to answer this obvious trolling question.

If to make production was as simply as to buy and install machines everyone with cash would be PCB producer and PCB assembler.

In this regard I have dream...

I want to compose music and play piano like Mozart, do you know how much it will cost me?

Obvious garbage, no location for this fanciful "factory" has even been specified.
