Shoot Up Reflow Zone | 8 December, 2016

We are currently experiencing with our SMD Solder Reflow Equipment on Shooting-Up Zones (Zones 3,4,5,7 & even Cooling Zone). PV exceeds about 5-10 degrees with the SP. (ex: SP=140deg, actual PV = 145deg & higher). Our equipment undergo a monthly preventive maintenance schedule. Some Blowers were already replaced, SSR and exhaust ducting. We are using a 9-Zones Reflow Oven. Please advise if somebody already experience this problem and how did you resolve it? Thank you.

So the zone set value is 140C but the board reached 145C? Sounds like the thermocouple reading 140C is not calibrated so the actual air / n2 temperature is higher. If air temperature was in fact 140C at the board level then it cannot be heated to a higher temperature. If anything it will be 5 -15 degrees cooler.

Then you say: "the board reach up to 145 deg. 5 deg higher than the set value"

That doesn't make sense.

Hello Sr. Tech, please disregard the board temp. it should be the actual value displayed, the PV at 145 deg. while the SP @ 140deg.

Hi Carlo, Please give a call to Heller service at 1-800-394-OVEN and Press 5 for Service. They will take good care of you. You can also mail to servicenj@hellerindustries.com with a screen shot of the zone setpoints and PV's and this will help them to analyze even before you call.

Hello Marc,

Thank you for the recommendation. I've contacted our local service support. We found out that heat coming from higher zones 7, 8 & 9 overflows to zone 3, 4 & 5 which affects actual temp reading at Z3,4,5. Since we already replaced some blowers under the affected zones. Part on baffles under Z3,4,5 were covered both top & bottom zones to reduce the flow of hot air coming from peak zones. We monitor the performance after the adjustment for few days and we found it good. Affected zones now easily stabilized every change in recipe at different zone settings. thank you
