Samsung SM421 | 26 October, 2016

I'm looking for any information on the Samsung SM421 regarding BGA placement. We currently have a Universal GSM (circa 2004) GI-14 and we are approaching software limitations on multi-pitch BGAs. Any additional information about the SM421 capabilities and limitations would be appreciated.

We have two of them set up in our line they where made in 2011. we place Atmel AT91SAM9G45-CU 324-ball BGA no issues and other larger PCB blutooth IC's,QFN,QFP full range of sizes. You can make your own profiles for the parts to be recognised if you need higher accuracy. just about the sky is the limit on them. well worth the investment.

we've chucked a few curve-balls at the machine and havnt yet found a part we cant place.

Thanks for the info. Have you had any experience with multi-pitch BGAS. We are starting to see more BGAs with non-standard ball pitch. See attached.

No sorry, I havnt seen anything like that. What is the package size/ball size/ or the ball pitch?

I can have a look and see if I can get it to work on these machines? I'm pretty sure they will cope fine though.

Adam - Continuing this thread. A few more questions. Where is your facility located? What was the installation and training process? Who/how is the SM421 serviced? Do you have any concerns with spare parts?
