Quad 4C laser align calibration

Quad 4C laser align calibration | 25 May, 2016

So, I haven't used my Quad 4C for a while and when I started everything back up to run a new board it appears that the Quad align is in need of calibration.

When I pick up a component and do an LAE measurement on it it shows the part center location to be off by about 80 mils in both X and Y. I have tried re-measuring the shaft/nozzle with function 30 which reports what I believe are reasonable values but component measurements still read off center.

This is a big issue since when I actually do a run the components are then getting placed ~80 mils off center but with various rotations about the desired placement point.

So, does anyone know how to either re-calibrate the Quad align or compensate for the offset?

Everytime I have seen an offset like that it was dirt on the quad-align lens.....try cleaning it off with alcohol and a lint free cloth. If this does not fix it....you may have dirt inside the quad align itself.

I am assuming you have checked to make sure your modcodes are correct. If the battery on the EPCU card has died... the modcodes will be at default settings.

good luck

I did clean both lenses from the outside and checked all the MOD codes.

I even removed the battery to reset everything and re-programmed all the codes but to no avail.

I will strip it down and fully clean it to see if that helps.

Just strange that the centering/measurement (function 30) seems OK, but only the component measurement is off.

really smells like I have a parameter set wrong somewhere but for the life of me I can't think where.

Thanks for your feedback, very much appreciated.

If there is dust (on the glass) off from the center of the lens it will add it to the part when scanning it and place off. I have ran into this twice.....I fixed it once by breaking the lens on the quad align and blowing it out.....another time I helped someone over the phone and they bought a new quad align.

oh ya....i forgot....to verify this....turn off all the extents for the parts and just pick them and place them....if they are very close to where they should be then it is the quad align causing the problem....this is how you can verify it. Copy the program first so that you have the original.

Thanks for the thoughts. I will try a few things tonight so see if I can clean anything from the windows.

As always, thanks for your thoughts and time :)

Soooo.... I started to take the laser off last night to clean it and decided to put it back on to do some more measurements to see if anything obvious turned up and lo and behold it is not good !!!

Most likely cause I can think is that you were right and there was something on one of the windows (inside) which I dislodged by taking it off and putting back on, so I am a happy camper at the moment.

Again, I really appreciate your time with suggestions.
