SMEMA Conveyor into Reflow Oven? How to handle end of line signal. | 10 November, 2015

How is a board conveyor typically configured to unload into a conveyor oven if there is no downline machine to five a ready to receive signal? Do you just use a plc to activate the machine ready signal at a timed interval? Would you perhaps do the same thing for beginning of line with board ready to send signal? Thanks for any help.

What is your goal? To keep feeding boards regardless,or to stop feeding boards if they are not coming out?

I presume start by having it just pass into oven as soon as it is given a board from the placement machine. If I find I need to pace the boards into the oven it seems a basic PLC would be needed? Thanks for the help.

To clarify- what I have is:

1. Manual stencil print process 2. Dynapace conveyor into GSM 3. Dynapace conveyor out of GSM into oven

So what I need is a way to tell the conveyor into the placement machine to "go" when a board is loaded onto it after the manual stencil print, and a way to have the conveyor out of the placement machine unload into an oven (that has no smema interface.)

So far my thought is to have a button close the upline 'board ready to send' contacts for the infeed conveyor when the operator loads a printed board, and a timer(plc) close the downline 'machine ready to receive' contacts for the exit conveyor to pace boards into the oven.

Hi Tom If the DYNAPACE has SMEMA out all you need to do is place a two wire jumper into pins 3&4 or 1&2 depending upon DYNAPACE's SMEMA configuration. This will by-pass a Release signal and feed PCBs into the oven.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a shot!

Tom,

Mount one sensor at about 6 inch inside of the beginning of the oven conveyor and use its output as ready to accept the board signal. That 6 inch distance will give you timing and space between two boards entering in the oven.

Hi Tushar,

That is the conclusion that I was coming to before Gary's suggestion. I think a sensor will probably be the best solution but it is good to have options and back-up plans.

Thanks everyone
