Mydata theta problem | 16 September, 2015

Hi guys,

Recently got an error message when initiating hardware on a Mydata TP9-UFP. Message is: Theta/2: Lower end point not repeatable. Reinitiating fails at message. Haven't seen this message before. Any idea what it could be as production is halted until this is resolved. Thanks.

Check the vacuum tube on the Zfi head. Make sure the ty-rap isn't interfering. Then check the ribbon cables.

Thanks, have checked the vacuum tube and ribbon cables. They seem to look ok. Theta motor seems to be woking. I'm leaning towards the theta encoder going wanky. Is that possible?

We used to run a TP9-2 but upgraded to the MY series about 5 years ago..... Encoder going bad is a likely possibility, especially on a machine that old. I can't say for sure that is your problem but we did have to replace an encoder on our TP9 (I don't remember which one specifically). Good luck finding an encoder for replacement as Mycronic (Mydata) no longer supports TP9 machines.

Also, I'd suggest seriously thinking about getting rid of your TP9 and replacing it with a refurbished MY series machine. Not only is Mycronic still supporting the MY series but the improvement in placement speed and accuracy will make it worth the investment. All of your current magazines will work on the MY machines although I would recommend newer magazines as well.

I agree with dyoungquist the problem must be with the transducer (encoder), I had a similar problem with the old tp9-ufp, we replace the encoder and it work just make sure you do all the calibration for the encoder to work, and second, you should really think on changing the TP9 to a newer model, like a MY series, since right now Mycronic or what was mydata they dont give support to the TP series.

Which encoder did you replace? The one sitting on top of the midas shaft and below the small board or the one attached t the motor next to it? I don't even know if the first one is an encoder.

What calibration needs to be done on the encoder for it to work?

From what I remember, the round encoder on top of the Zfi head comes preassembled with the shaft. It's made in Germany. I don't remember the manufacturer, but the name and p/n might be on the label.
