I would like to output optimized feeder list in a text format for my inventory clerk to sort the components in the same order and the feeders.

I presume you mean "as the feeders"

Anyway my program PCBSynergy does this function .

just read in your Altium PCB file or CSV from another CAD package select manufacturer Samsung, Model Samsung SM421 on the Options tab hit the process button and you have yourself an Auto-sorted by component type feeder list. Now go to the feeder list tab and hit save feeders after having selected an appropriate file location in the popup dialog opened by the Browse key. Sort your optimized list in Excel, save as a CSV (in Excel). Reopen it in PCBSynergy. The 'OpenCSV' button. Now hit the save feeders button. You have an Optimized Samsung 421 XML file and a feeder list in Excel, as well as a BOM list in Excel, etc

I think the OP is wanting this list after the Samsung machine or their EasyOLP program has optimized the feeder list for their particular machine.

I think in the menu on the machine (at least on the CP45 series) there is a print feeder list command & I believe it's in ascii so you can print to file. I will check tomorrow on the machine and report back for anyone coming along later.

You would think that one could optimize the feeders then Export a SSA file & get the feeder information that way, but I don't believe that feeder information can be exported (or imported for that matter) within the confines of the .SSA format. Someone please let me know if this is in fact true or not. I do know that the "import" of an SSA has more features than you see if you look at an "Exported" SSA from the machine. For instance, I can have an array configured and export the SSA, but the array information is NOT in the SSA. Yet, there most definitely is an array command you can stick in your SSA and it will import correctly.

The feeder information is stored in the .PCB file or the .OPT file as well, but I don't believe the format of it is published. Again, if someone has more information on these files, please email me or post here as it would very useful to the Samsung users.

I thought I'd clarify "Optimized" a little more as well.

The Optimize function on the machine as well as in EasyOLP (if I remember EasyOLP clearly) will calculate the optimum order of the feeders and placements on the machine based upon the types of nozzles installed, step info, ect. Even adding multiple feeders for the same part if necessary.

Smaller runs we don't optimize the feeder list, we add them in part number order to keep confusion down and our feeder list matching our BOM as closely as possible.

A larger run where the time savings for the OPT will make a big difference, we will optimize on the machine before loading.

I just checked on the printout on our CP45Neo. It's not in ascii, but you can print the feeder map and all data to an installed printer (use adobe file generator driver if you need a file to archive and allow kitting/inventory to use). It's under the Utilities tab.

This doesn't work well for the first time you run a particular assy as you have to load the the assy onto the machine, optimize, save the file, then print the feeder list to .pdf. After that, the next time you run it the parts can be kitted to the floor with a printed feeder list. It's not ascii so you can't decode it and store in a database anywhere easily, but at least you can have your feeders loaded and arranged off the floor while the previous job is still running & issue the entire set of feeders with a printed document.

Samsung's EasyOLP will of course do a lot of this for you as well, but I don't remember the details of how it works.

I have a pre-production utility that I wrote that does a lot of data manipulation for our jobs automatically to make transition from customer supplied documentation -> CP45 as fast and error-free as possible, but it's tightly integrated to our MRP backend and not easily separated. It also doesn't let you pull back out the optimized feeder list as I haven't tried to reverse engineer the .pcb or .opt file. I've looked at the format, it's doable, but it will take some effort and trial & error. I just haven't had time to spend with it.

I just noticed that under the print utility you can in fact Print To File, (disregard my earlier note about needing .pdf print driver) so this would give you an ascii ouput of the optimized feeder list. However, you still have to do it at the machine after you have created your .pcb file.

It loads samsung files, including before and after optimization, and gives you feeder list splitted by machine and side (Front/Rear). Also, you can go over on each cart and check if you put a right feeder on right place. I will send you some samples. Note, however the .pcb file has a LOT more information in that just placement data, it has vision code definitions, part specific fields such as number of pick retrys, pickup/placement delays, speeds, feeder xyz locations, ect. Peeling out the feeder info might not be too troublesome, but understanding the entire format clear enough that one could generate their own .pcb from scratch would require a little more work.

Your Setup Center looks very useful as well. Can it generate a .pcb file or does it just read feeder information out of an already created .pcb?

Hi Len,

Setup Center doesn't generate .pcb files. It reads those files, displays, exports and prints feeder list information.

From our view, the best way to create .pcb files is to use the original software. Samsung has basic software solution that can do the work.
