help GSM2 Spindles error: All spindles safe sensor not seen for head | 19 March, 2014

thank you for taking the time to look at this post. hopefully someone can help. I have a GSM2 Q block with a Flexjet 7 spindle head. a couple of days ago the machine encounter this issue while zeroing. the issue is with head 2 on beam 2. on the diagnostics I checked the input for "all nozzles zero" and on the good head and I get "all nozzles zero" with a check mark , and when I check the same on head 2 I get the same message but without the check mark. all belts are fine and I can move every nozzle manually by activating the corresponding nozzle clutch. sensor for z axis seems to be working. when checking z axis on diagnostics it checks ok.

I hope someone can help.

Hello Again. I little more information about the issue: when trying to zero machine head the spindles move up and down about 6 times before giving the error code. also I notice that all the LEDs on the circuit board are off. L11 - L18. and the numeric display by the touch down sensors displays alternating no. 1 and 2 sometimes also no.3 I hope someone can help.

thank you again.

The numeric display number should be higher but only when all 7 spindles are moved down slightly from the full up position. The 7 spindles retract up to the Stop Bar. Each spindle assembly has a tapered hole thru it. This hole is in the block with the Pin Mirrors in it. There is an emitter on one side of the head and receiver on the other about 2/3 down on the head. If one of the spindles is not up against the Stop Bar or if the Stop Bar is cocked then you will not get a reading high enough on the sensor to indicate that all spindles are safe. I've seen components get caught between the Stop Bar and the spindle and cause this error as well as a cocked Stop Bar.

NRS, I will check to make sure that the hole in the spindles are not obstructed and that the spindles are not damaged or bent. thank you for the info. I will let report after I check.

thank you

I tried to check for the emitter and the receiver and I notice that the receiver is screwed into the side of the head and not easily accessible so I decide not to mess with it. this is what I did. I activated all of the clutches for the spindles and rotated the z axis until they were all down in a position where I could see the side hole. then I positioned a flash light on one side and looked at the opposite side of the spindles and saw the light shine on my eye. I also saw that the beam of light is round and not obstructed.
