Mydata sod523 pickup problem | 4 March, 2014

Hi I'm trying to pick and place a lot of sod523 components with a mydata my12. I'm using C14 standard tool and Hydra tool H01. For some reason no matter what I try to do when the head picks the component with the C14 tool the machine emergency stops then comes up with the error message - F-MOT-MOVEINDVACWAIT Z/137: cannot calibrate force sensor!?! Sometimes it does it with 0402 components too even though I'm using the mydata's default packages. I've never had proper training so am at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do to rectify this problem. Thanks

Per the TPSys Version 2.4 Software Manual:

Force sensor level not within limits. * Force sensor dirty (inside Z tool holder) * Bad force sensor connection

Try this: Remove the tool from the Z Midas head. Take a cotton tipped applicator (Q tip) and gently run it up inside the head where the tool goes in. Goal is to clean the inside of the Z tool holder all the way up to where the sensor is. Then re-grease the tool o-rings lightly before having the machine pick up the tool again.

Another thing to check is to see if the spring action on your C14 tool is working. The shaft should move slightly back and forth within the body of the tool. If it doesn't, you need a new C14 tool.

One thing to be certain on the spring action of your tools is the direction of travel. With the new black tools the tube can seem normal but the slider is retracted instead of extended. This happens when pulling or installing tips. it is a very natural thing to twist the tip in either operation. Twisting the tip destroys the spring and about half the time the tube/slider will still move but in the wrong direction. On the old stainless tools if you put a little twist on the tip while installing or puling you would see the spring distort and could stop before wrecking it. Not so on the black tools.

Oh I didn't know that about the springs of the tool! I had to turn the spring action off on one of my other tools already, so think I will be buying a couple definitely new C14. Thanks for letting me know.

We build new tools and have rebuilt hundreds of Mydata tools over the years. Ours have a key in them so you do not hurt them by twisting the tip. About half of the Mydata we rebuild have straight tubes but damaged springs. The new Mydata tools have a nice design and are very precision but they still use the flat spring. By not ever doing any twisting on the tips they can live to a ripe old age.
