Question about LED SMD | 30 January, 2014

Hi.

I need to mount a LED SMD type backwards on a PCB.

Currently, I am doing that manually.

My questions are:

Is there a SMD LED with the right package to mount that?

The machines automatically place elements on a PCB, Do they could mount the LED backwards?

To explain what I want to make, attached a picture

Thanks

Hi, we do that for some of our assemblies(the only difference is that our cut in the PCB is bigger and the LED leads step on the paste right away). we place these manually. I assume that you can send them for tape and reel, and if they can find the right carrier, they can load them in the tape backwards for you. That way you would be able to auto place them.

Regards, Emil

There are reverse mount LED's specifically for this purpose. If you want to use standard ones I guess the best option would be to get someone to repackage them for you. http://www.avagotech.com/pages/en/leds/surface_mount_chipleds/reverse_mount_series/ here is one example. http://www.vishay.com/docs/81779/vlre31.pdf here is another, plenty more on google.....
