Optiflux 500 Ultrasonic Fluxer Issue | 27 November, 2013

We recently rebuilt the generator and power supply on our '97 vintage Optiflux Ultrasonic fluxer. That cleared up all its issues except.

Ultrasonics are reported by all indicators to be running in both Setup and Run mode, however, the nice rooster-tail of atomized flux can only be obtained in Setup. In Run mode, flux just sprays out of the dispense head with no atomization.

The cable connecting the generator to the ulrasonic horn has been reworked and verified for continuity. Only 2 conductors.

Wiring has been checked against the schematic point for point and connections have all been verified for tightness by 3 pairs of eyes and hands. PLC, 48V Supply and U/S Generator connections are all good.

The big mystery is why we get the right stuff happening in setup and can't duplicate it in Run.

Fresh out of ideas with the boss breathing down my neck. Any suggestions?

I have no specific knowledge of this type of fluxer, but to me it sounds like it may be a setting out of whack. Do you have more than one program that you run? Does it duplicate the identical symptoms across all programs? Have you already called USI?

It's really a dirt simple machine and the one program works for about anything.

Been speaking to Larry Sirois at USI through this whole adventure and he has been helpful to the point where I think I have overtaxed his resources. Only so much you can do without getting eyes and hands on the machine.
