We installed a Soltec Delta 3 a few months ago and have been trying to run with a VOC free no clean. We're using SN100C in the pot. We are spraying the material and have top/bottom preheat.

Evaporation of the water in the flux is a bit of a struggle when setting up new profiles but no matter what we do, there is still some level of solder balls/fines on a given board. IPC 610 section 5.2.7.1 provides for somewhat of an out for this condition but I'm not comfortable hanging my hat on it.

We have no customer mandate to run VOC free and I'm considering a change to an alcohol based NC. Has anyone been down this road and/or tried the Kester 985M?

Thanks,

Hoss

Any alcohol based flux will outperform a water based (VOC free) flux. If one thing I learned in my 35+ years in the electronics industry "Water and electronics is a bad combination".
