Aperture or Pad requirement for 0805 Package Inductor | 4 November, 2013

Hi, We have an issue of 0805package Inductor falling apart from the circuit. We are not sure about the cause for the same so I would like to get suggestions from those who can share their experience / expertise. Is the pad requirement different for these component if so how much or the aperture requirement is different?

First, require use of the IPC-7351B Standard as the sole basis for laying-out pads on circuit boards.

Second, if someone wants to use a pad design that either: * Wasn't covered in IPC-7351B ... OR * Was for a component that was in the standard but not compliant with the standard ... The proposed pad layout be reviewed and signed-off by at least representatives by the design, quality, and manufacturing engineering departments.

That being said, it would NOT surprise me to have someone tell me a pad layout for an inductor was non-compliant.

Anyhow, you say the you have an "issue of 0805 package Inductor falling apart from the circuit." What do you mean by "falling apart?" Tell us more about the situation [ie, material, processes, etc]
