Mydata (TP9-2U) problem | 7 May, 2013

We are having a problem with our Mydata TP9-2U where the machine shuts down during a job with this message seen on the service monitor -- F-MOT1-26/156:MOVFI: MOTOR TIMEOUT Has anybody seen this problem?

MOVFI is a theta error there are about 10 things that can cause it. Start with making sure you do not have an acceleration set to lowest while the others are at high or highest in the package data.

Next look at ribbon cables...

acceleration is set to lowest. Ribbon cables were replaced, theta motor replaced. I also see a message pop up just after

F-MOT1-26/156:MOVFI: MOTOR TIMEOUT / F-AXIS-182:C-AXIS NOT properly out when expected / 25v reads 3V.

Now all these messages are seen on the service monitor and not the regular monitor as it has shut off. Once we restart the machine it runs for a while and randomly shuts down also not on any particular package. I have interchanged the MOT cards. Thanks for your replies.

The "lowest" acceleration is probably causing your problem. Switch it to the next fastest setting and see what happens

Tried High and highest. Same message on shut down

The "25v reads 3V" part of the error message may be your clue. Since the machine runs for a while and then shuts down, something may be failing after it warms up. "F-AXIS-182:C-AXIS NOT properly out when expected" refers to the centering jaws not opening properly. Possibly the centering jaws run off of the 25V and of course don't work properly when the 25V drops down to 3V. Can't say for sure what is making the 25V drop to 3V but it has been 2+ years since we stopped using our TP9-2U and I was no expert on it anyway.

As a side note....(I get no benefit from Mydata for saying this).... I suggest upgrading to a MY9 or MY12, even a used and/or refurbished unit. That is what we did. You will not regret the investment, it is well worth the cost.

Actually thinking of LX14, but for now I need to solve this problem. We have replaced centering jaws, the steel belts for regular maintenance. I don't think there is anything binding. The strangest thing is every time it shuts down it is right at the Y wagon at the board and just after it has placed a part on the board. Never when it is picking up a part from the feeders.

Thanks all.

Your centering jaws are likely okay. It's the 25V that runs the centering jaws that is having the problem. Could be the circuit that produces the 25V is having problems after warmup or maybe the motor that runs the centering jaws is going bad. Looks like there is no quick, easy way to fix it without calling the Mydata tech service line.

No luck yet. Also cannot buy a Cent electrode motor from manufacturer. Anybody know of sources where we can buy spares for TP-9. Thanks

I've heard that MyData is no longer supporting the TP's, so, getting a new motor might be a difficult proposition. If you can find the motor manuf/part number on the motor itself, you can likely find it on line somewhere...Google the p/n should do it. I managed to pick up a vacuum system motor that way last year.

But, on to your problem. Have you tried moving the MOT card around yet, and seeing if the problem follows it? The assessment that something is heating up and failing is likely accurate, the next step would be to isolate where in the machine that component is located. You're likely looking at the MOT card, ribbon cables, motor, or encoder. There's also a chance that the booster card(s) have something going wiggy, or the power supply.

You'll need to locate/identify which MOT card is associated with the C motor (I can't remember which one it is). Once that is done, swap that MOT card with one of the other two MOT's, and see if the problem moves from the C motor to the X or Y motors.

Cheers, ..rob

I have moved the MOT cards. The messages are still the same. Booster +25V is stable, The BM3 +25V indicator shows no +25V which means any of the feeds down the chain pulled it down. So basically once it is low the relays in the BM3 card will not latch back until I reset the machine. --- I found a centering unit, hopefully that solves my woes. Thanks all.
