We currently operate a procedure of keeping fresh tubes of solder paste in a fridge.

When it is required we remove the required quantity from the tube and return the tube to the fridge before it warms up to room temperature.

We then store this at room temperature keeping a track of the hours spent on the stencil.

I have. however read that the fresh solder should be brought to room temperature before opening to prevent moisture gathering on it.

What are peoples views on this? What differing control procedures are there?

We use both lead and lead free solder paste.

Absolutely! The Solder paste needs to be brought to room temperature or close before opening. It like bringing a cold glass from the refrigerator when the humidity is high,water will condensate on the glass. It also will condensate on the solder and cause problems.

I agree with Ka. I can't think of a solder paste supplier that doesn't tell you to let your paste come to room temperature before putting the paste on the stencil.
