Acceptance Criteria Ion Chromatography testing? | 22 May, 2012

Are there any established acceptance criteria for contaminants based on Ion Chromatography testing? I've found some references to certain levels for some contaminants but there doesn't seem to be any industry consensus. Any feedback or reference to limits with supporting data would be appreciated.

Simple answer is no, there is no universally acknowledged acceptance criteria. Some time ago, I started a spreadsheet with the acceptance levels suggested by various labs on the individual ionic species. All are relatively close in their individual allowables, but there are slight differences. One of the biggest differences are the levels associated with cleaned and no-clean assemblies. Another potential roadblock to an acceptance criteria is IPC's 3 classes of electronics. What is a defect for class 3 can be acceptable for class 1, so manufacturers would most likely require 3 classes for ionic residues as well.

edmaya33, you're correct about what J-STD-001E says, but recognize that the measure that you refer us to in not IC [Ion Chromatography]. It is modified ROSE [Resistivity of Solvent Extract] ... or whatever they call modified ROSE now-a-days
