I am looking for input on good blacklight to inspect silicon coating coverage on PCB's. This inspection is visual. Any advice or recommendations on lamps or bulbs?

We use a Luxo handheld magnifier that has both UV and white light built in. You can get one from Techni-Tool (p/n 516IN401) or HMC Electronics (p/n 16401).

Hopefully the coating does contain a UV tracer. We used a silicone years ago that did not, but UV did make it fluoresce to a degree, you just couldn't ensure 100% coverage. One time we did have a problem with the coating getting on connector pins, so we had to do a 100% screen. We went downtown and got all the black lights a store had to offer. They actually worked, just had to view in a darkened room.

You can pay high-end and just purchase from any big supplier (All-Spec, EIS, etc.) Or you can stop by your local Lowes/HD and find the 15" black-light fluorescent tubes and a cheap desk lamp that will hold them. Put it in a dark room and you are done.

I have seen a configuration with a lows type blacklight mounted inside of a smaller cardboard box/ depending on the size of your board, that may work.

You can buy bulbs for any T8 T10 fixure. You can buy black light bulbs or white uv bulbs and just pop them in.

There should be a bulb supplier in your city that has them.
