What is the best method for cleaning PCBs | 26 August, 2011

I am looking for some guidance concerning cleaning PCB's. We are bringing in house our circuit boards and need to clean them. I am not sure what the best method is. Is it Ultrasonic or Batch wash. If someone can make some comments one way or the other that would be appreciated.

IPC just released IPC-CH-65B which gives a lot of guidance regarding the cleaning process. It addresses the processes, chemicals, well worth getting a copy.

We assume from the way you wrote the posting that we're talking about bare boards delivered from your fabricator. If that's the case, the best way to clean these boards is to tell your supplier to clean the boards before sending them to you. You should not have to clean boards prior to your processes.
