I've been using 29x29 framed screens for years. I have a company that has come up with a adapter that would mount in my screen printer and utilize just the foils of screens. It basically fits and is clamped into the adapter. I am struggling with floor space and find this option appealing. Has anyone ever tried this method? If so how is working out?

That is all we have ever used ("Zelflex" by LPKF). They work great. We have 300+ stencils stored in print drawers, probably 3'x3'x5' area. The stencils are also cheaper by more than 1/2 from our supplier. The only stencils we have in permanent frames are 4-mil as they are too easy to damage if not heald steady in the frame.

These have been around for many years from a variety of manufactures. They work well and save a lot of space and will save some money on the stencils.

We would be concerned that frame-less stencils are more easily damaged.

Hello all I have used a couple of types one of them only clamped on two sides and you used a wrench and screwed the bolt down till it was tight ( what is tight) and there was no fram at all around the stencil so people got cut. the second one we used uses air pressure to do the clamping and pulls from all four sides much better and has a plastic fram around stencil so no one gets cut by the stencil takes more space but i can fit two plastic framed stencils in one spot the full fram used so it saved me some space Goog luck

So are the foils cut by the same adapter people? I'd like to use existing foils if possible and have them notched to fit someones Adapter.

I've been using a DEK Vectorguard frame for a couple months now and like it a lot. It uses air to clamp/unclamp the foil and both DEK Vectorguard and Alpha Metals Tetrabond foils fit the frame. Just about any decent stencil supplier sells Vectorguard foils.

We use QTS and Vectour guard. I would prefer Vectourguard - it is very siple to set it up. However, you have to check the tension of the stencil everyday. I wouldn't trust them as 29 inch hard frame. It is always a metter of quantities. If you deal with small batches fast frames are fine.
