SMT vs TH

Ok Guys I need help in justification of Converting TH boards to SMT. We do quite a bit of I/O controllers using sockets and chips, and our biggest defect issues are bad chips.

I am preaching to convert these boards over to SMT, however my designers are in the old school mind set.

I want to know your thoughts on:

1.Cost Comparison ( reducing processes/setups and TH and part costs) 2.Reliability and life increase of products. 3.Quality statements in general. 4.Any other attributes that you can think of.
