Hi All, I have recently acquired another CSM84VZ, which will soon need the Y-axis ball screw replaced. Would anyone happen to know the ball screw mfr. and series that would best fit this machine?

Philips (Yamaha) use a non standard NSK Ball screw and nut assembly. You should buy the genuine ball screw from your agent as the series of Ball screws used on these machines are the "NSK Super Precision series" which is not stocked by linear guide supplies and is a special order due to the additional machining on both ends.

Offen the noise of the ball screw is actually the thrust bearing assembly at the front of the machine requires replacement, not the ball screw. The thrust bearing at the front must be changed at the same time as the ball screw anyway. The thrust bearing at the front is actually a matched pair bearing not a standard cheap bearing, therefore it also should be ordered from your local Yamaha agent.

The rear bearing is a cheap standard bearing.

Hi Jeff,

There is a visible roughness in the groove in the front most six to eight inches of the screw, and this is where some noise is produced when operating. I called Assembleon once looking for another part, and they flatly offered no support at all due to the machine's age, and offered no clue as to where to get parts. I'm figuring a little work-around may be needed, perhaps using more standard NSK parts unless you or someone here knows of a third-party supplier.

YAMAHA has been OEM to Philips for CSM range machines. Hence it is certainly recommended to have your machine one-time completely overhauled by YAMAHA before you decide to engage local 3rd party agencies for maintenance or maintain in-house. The cost towards genuine spares from YAMAHA will surely trade-off against the business your machine will support once rehabilitated.

Tom, If you need the parts... I can quote and supply them.. A good tradesman can change these parts. You do not necessarily need a Yamaha trained guy to do it. The only issue issue after the exchange of the parts is calibration of the machine, which if the machine has a vision system fitted, will mean re-doing the Vision files.
