We have a Quad QSV-1 pick and place machine that has performed fine for us with the exception of cylindrical glass (MELF) type diodes. The machine often fails to pick these out of the tape to the point where it is easier to hand place them.

As far as I know, all the available nozzles are flat and don't conform to the rounded shape. I've tried different nozzles, but none are successful. We have better luck with the smaller FDLL4148 size diodes and worse luck with the larger 1N5109SM size diodes.

I would like to know how others out there handle cylindrical parts like these on a Quad? Thank you in advance.

It has been a while but I think it is the "BAS" nozzle, a nozzle with a seal on the bottom and possibly a pick up delay.
