Selective Soldering Equipment selection | 14 October, 2010

Hello All, I am looking to increase Selective Soldering capability and am looking for insight as to what equipment/manufacturer to persue. I am looking for a small footprint, fully wetted batch system that can be easily upgraded to in line function in the future. Ease of programming, soldering quality and cost of ownership are all important considerations. I am looking at Pillarhouse, RPS, Jade and ACE as possible solutions. Any input from end users would be very appreciated. Thank you for your time.

What you have is blowholes. Baking your boards prior to soldering will help. Root cause is either barrel plating too thin or barrel cracks allowing laminate moisture to escape.

Hi Brian, I would suggest checking out ACE selective soldering equipment. We have 2 of them now, and have both been great machines. Low Cost and great quality. Support is Excellent and Easy to program. Send them a sample to solder so you can evaluate.

Brian

When we were looking into getting a selective solder system 2 years ago, I had factory tours at both RPS and ACE. We ended up choosing RPS. Not a big difference between them. The RPS system is a little easier to program in my opinion and was slightly cheaper. Solder quality has been high, meeting IPC class 3 if everything is programmed correctly. No reason to think we made the wrong choice yet.
