I had 2 Contact 3AV and 2 Contact 3Z machines. Basically the same as 3AVX machines. Both models are good machines. They are perfect for small production and even medium production size lots if you have multiple machines. Super easy to operate and program. Replaced linear glass scale, Y motor, MEI motion control card, and a few other minor items over a 5 year time frame. Not as reliable as a Panasonic but much easier to fix. Paid $120,000.00 US dollars with 80 feeders in 1997.

I just sold my 3AVX 3 months ago. I machine with feeders is worth $5-10k depending on condition. There are limitations to a 3AVX, mainly dificulty consistantly placing 0603's and not being able to place anything smaller. You might be better off buying a Phillips Topaz or Mydata for low volume. Both machines are fully capable of placing most all components on the market today. Maintenance on both is easy also.

Hi Mark, Thank you for your opinion about Contact 3AVX. If I place from 0805 to larger only, can CS 3AVX do good? Beside, please tell me about the cost of used Philips Topaz or Mydata TP9-UPF that i can buy.

Thanks & regards,

Good Morning,

I have run the Contact 3AVX for several years. The machine performed well for 0805 and larger components. We did have to re-calibrate frequently (bi-weekly) for fine pitch and small discretes (0603 and 0402) We had the Auto-calibration fixture. That saved a lot of time. I would recommend it for larger components.

Good Luck

Chris

The machine will do just fine on 0805 and larger. Feeder maintenance is the most critical component to the success of a Contact. I'm not an equipment dealer I do not know the price on other used equipment. I have programmed and used many other types of machines. Phillips and Mydata are by far the most flexible and user friendly machines out there. the Contact is a little quirky.

I placed almost nothing but 0402 components on the Contact 3AV and 3Z machines I had. I will admit that there are better machines for placing 0402 components. Not sure why the 3AVX would perform poorly at 0402 placement. The feeders have a X & Y adjust and the nozzles I think were 0.060" diameter single port. There is also a feeder jig to adjust the feeders to perfect X & Y index location. You might want to get it if you can. We did not have to calibrate our machines that often. I only calibrated when critical parts in the Y were replaced or the head got crashed. Maybe once a year for us. Twenty mil pitch parts with several hundred leads worked great for us. 0402 components worked fine as long as feeders were calibrated. If you are placing 0805 and larger the machine should work well for you.

Thank you for your message. Please kindly tell me about software of the machine. Is that dos base or windows enviroment or other type? Can programming next issue during machine running or not? How 's about stability of the software? Sorry for my so many questions, but I'm looking forward to get your understand & more advise.

The software is DOS. No multi tasking. Can program via CAD data using Circuit Cam. Contact has an offline package as well. Very easy to use the Contact machine software.
