Hello Andrew,

For programming a single Topaz or Emerald you need only the Cad2cad 1.5 (Freeware) With this program you can generate a VIOS.TXT file based on your position data.

You import this in the machine and add your component and Fiducial data.

After that you can run the optimizer on the machine.

However, to balance your line and to work a lot faster and prepare off line instead of online, you better of buying the software from Assembleon. Officially software is not transferable, so you cannot buy a secondhand software program.

Hope this gets you started.

I also am having difficulty generating appropriate text input for our recently acquired Topaz. Previous owner used a big (expensive) piece of Enterprise s/w to get the job done. Where can I get CAD2CAD. Looking on the web yields a lot of viewers and dwg dxf converters but nothing that looks like it will generate vios txt. HELP!!!

If you have trouble also you can check out Valors vPlan, i have it running Yamaha YV100Xxg machines - they support Assembleon versions too. Can generate VIOS files from ALtium Input - either CAD DB files or ODB++ as Altium Designer supports this now....

Can import BOMS from customer, merge and report and graphically place on PCB before generate VIOS...

Advantage also is you can read back parts from VIOS Files and use again when making new programs...

Will cost some money but is good foundation for any CEM... Just food for thought....

Hi, I have a CSM84, PA1306/20. When I got it, a lot of the offsets had been zeroed out. I figured out a procedure to calibrate the back feeder rail, but haven't come up with a scheme to calibrate the mechanical alignment unit. I have it close, but not close enough. I have no alignment fixtures, but do have a machine shop. The teach camera cannot reach the MA unit due to Y travel limits. I'm not sure, but maybe the beam sensor can reach the center of the MA unit. I suppose I could machine a block with a hole in the exact center, place it in the MA unit and center it, and then spot it manually with the beam sensor. This is pretty much how I made the offset to the rear feeders. Or, I could move the MA unit toward the front of the machine so the teach camera could see it. I'd only have to move it about 2 inches, I think.

The books I have don't really get into the details of making this measurement.

Sorry I have never worked on the csm's you can get an old topaz for nearly nothing. Those are easy to calibrate.

What could be an option is to place an X-row of chips under 0 degrees 4X then 90degr 4X then 180degr 4X then 270 degr 4X.

Place them all on the same Y position with a 5 mm interspacing. Now you can see the ofset very easy.

----____ you will see that effect.

After that do a row with the same X position and a Y interspacing.

Feeder bar can be corrected you can give a position for every 9 feeders and the machine will correct the ofset (on a topza that is think it is the same on a csm.)

Yup, that seems to be the procedure in the manual. But, it gets complicated, as the head has a rotation, the part has a rotation, and the MA station has a rotation, and it gets pretty confusing to figure out which way to tweak the offset values for the MA unit to get the part to move the way you want without fouling up parts that are oriented a different way. Some day I just have to spend a whole day going through it very methodically. Otherwise, this machine is really working great. Since I do a lot of very small runs and build some stuff by hand at first, I am resisting going below 0805 on the passives. Although pretty old for production machines, this CSM84 is REALLY working great for me, I got it for a song, it literally cost me more to have a double door installed than the machine and shipping cost me! I am sure I would move up to a newer machine if this one ever has a major breakdown like the main computer board. But since I know the ins and outs of nearly everything on this machine now, I'd hate to switch. Also, I have a bunch of feeders.

Just to give you an idea of the size of my operation, this is my second job, the CSM is in my home BASEMENT, and I reflow in a toaster oven with a thermocouple controller.

Oh, the CSM only has one XY offset for each feeder rail. If you don't like it, you can teach any particular feeder location. The crazy thing is the teach camera is an inch in front of the heads (-25 mm Y) so you can't put the teach camera over the rear feeder pickup locations. So, I made a little brass piece with a hole in it and mounted that in a feeder so the hole was right over the component center. Then I steered the beam sensor over that and acquired the location of that hole. This worked, and the rear feeder rail now feeds as well as the front.

I'm in St. Louis, MO, US Midwest. I wrote my own CAm interface, and it works REALLY well. It is only about 2 pages of c code. Of course, it only translates from one CAD package's format to one P&P machine's format. That makes it much simpler to write.

I have a manual set for a slightly earlier model, and a later model that moved to the brushless drives and totally different controller. Except for a few very small items, I think these manuals give me everything I need. One item missing, however, are schematics of the main controller board and the servo drives. They never intended to give schematics of the main board, but they just got the wrong pages in the manual for the servos. So I have schematics for the brushless digital drives instead of the brush analog drives.

I have a question about assembleon vibration feeders. What is the process for loading tubes in these feeders? Our personnel are cutting the top of a tube end around the size of the part and glueing it into place. Then the machine is programmed for that location. What is the correct way to use the vibration feeders?

I guess you mean the stick feeder. Most operators, just hold the new stick behind the one that is on the feeder and let the components slide over into the old stick. However, stick feeders are the worst way of feeding components.

ECLIPSE-II After calibration, now i'm having an issue that placement between lazer and camera off about .5mm on the Y mount. if parts go to camera, the placement are good. but parts that placing with lazer it off about .5mm at Y for all rotation. do you know what wrong with it?? thanks

You calibrated the Eclipse (with glass components I gues, on the glass PCB. After that you have to run the Chip calibration that calibrates the laser offset.

You can also manually put in a laser ofset but this is not so accurate.
