SMT Equipment Market | 24 November, 2009

A week or so ago I was reading an industry newsletter where the manager from Juki Europe (i think it was Juki) stated that SMT pick and place / equipment market fell by 80% in 2009. I guess that is compared to 2008. Anyway, that is a huge drop. Borderline collapse. I wonder if thats the industry as a whole or a specific company / region? Any comments?

I'd guess that it's reflective of the economy. The trend in down markets isn't usually towards capital equipment purchases. Most companies tend towards battening down the hatches, and keeping the cash close.

The upside, if you are able to invest, is that there are some great deals out there to be had. And you'll be in better position when the up-tick happens. At least, that's the line I used to sell my boss on the investments that we made this past year.
