May i know how do we differentiate between Class 1, 2 and 3 components? What are the key differences between those three classes?

When i check at IPC document, it is stated that

Class 1: General Electric Class 2: Dedicated Service Electronic products Class 3: High reliability products

Am i referring to the right classification?

Are you refering to components or assemblies. Assemblies are classified as 1,2 or 3 per IPC-A-610. Components are classified 1 - 6 for moisture sensitivity per J-STD-020

If you are talking about assemblies, Class 1 is like cheap toys or something you wouldn't expect to last very long. Class 2 would be components for a television, air conditioner, automobile (except safety critical). Basically, things that you would be pissed off if they fail but you would survive. Class 3 is for devices that, if they fail someone could be injured or killed, for example, military or medical applications. Some of our customers pay extra to have their non-safety critical devices built to class 3 standards for added reliability.
