we have pcb here that has a strange footprint on it the details for the device that should be placed on this pcb is part no. PSD833F2-90MI it has 3 different packages PQFP52,PLCC52,TQFP64 and the one that was in the BOM of this board was PQFP52. but after the device comes we noticed that this device can`t be located on the pcb because the detail of the footprint of this device on the pcb is : pitch : .991mm ,dim. 20.868x20.868 mm but the PQFP52 pitch is .65mm and the dim. is 10x10 mm. I should say that about 100 pcb is ready for assembly and all the BOM is purchased !!! so what do you think we can do for assembling these board with these device.

Your question implies that you would like to find a way to use the device you received with the BOM, rather than returning the part for the correct item. Given that situation, choices are: * Glue the part on the board bug-up [upside-down] and run jumper wires from the component leads to the pads on the board. * Use a component adapter / converter.

Don't waste your time or your repair technicians time on 100 PCBA's. Order the correct part size for the pads and return the old part. There shouldn't be much of a cost difference. This will save you a massive amount of time on rework not to mention any quality issues that will arise from trying to fit a part shape on 52 pads that wasn't designed to work.

I don't know who's driving the bus there, but I personally would just tell my boss that it couldn't be done without: (1) compromising the quality and reliability of the product (2) increasing the cost to manufacture the product (3) increasing the scrap rate (4) pissing of the people that have to do the work AND the people whose boards are going to be pushed out because of this fubar situation tieing up resources (5) letting the guy that spec'd or purchased the wrong part get off without feeling nearly enough pain.

Then the boss gets to decide what we actually do.

The adaptor that davef is referencing is by far your best option if you HAVE to use the parts you have, but is the lead time for the adaptor any shorter than the lead time for the right part?

Most bosses drive a short bus. So they don't care about the difficult rework, the time it takes, or pissing people off. They have a piece of paper with a deadline on it - that;s all they know. The pink piece of paper is what they use when the deadline is not met.
