Hi everyone,

Is there any instrument that you are using to measure the tensile strenght of a solder joint?. I would like to measure that from smd and thru hole parts.

I just want to take a few samples to verify the mechanical properties.

Thanks for your response

These test are largely useless. Check the fine SMTnet Archives for previous rants.

Manufacturers of machines to use are: * Peel tests: Instron [Instron Worldwide Headquarters; 825 University Ave, Norwood, MA 02062-2643; 800 877 6674 http://www.instron.com] * Shear tests: Dage [Dage Electronic Europa Vertriebs GmbH; Neue Weilheimer Str. 24, D-73230 Kirchheim unter Teck; ++49 (7021) 95069-0 F++49 (7021) 82149 http://www.dage.de dage@dage.de]

The president of my former place of employment used a screw driver for his solder joint quality assessment. I recommend you keep yours calibrated and locked up, just to be safe.

We prefer a good ol' fashion beer can opener, a relic of kinder, simplier, pre-pop tab days. And a multitasker to boot.

That's a great idea. You don't even need a capacitor as a fulcrum. Crikey, you are one wise dude.
