In-Line Barcode Scanning Question | 23 January, 2008

I am looking to scan small 2D barcodes in-line while the circuit board is on a conveyor. Currently an operator is picking board up off the conveyor to scan them. We want something that is fixed and does not need to much manual alignment from changeover to changeover. Some of the hurdles that we have to overcome are: -Very high mix of boards with barcodes in different locations -Barcodes can be located on either the top or bottom of the board

Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks

In previous threads, similar to this here on SMTnet, varies folk have made recommendations, as follows. Fixed position (mounted) [In-line] laser bar code scanners: * microscan 800-762-1149 info@microscan.com [Ken SMTnet] * symbol technologies symbol.com [Russ SMTnet] * Keyence and RVSI inline scanners [B Norman SMTnet] * Datalogic TC1100 bartec systems.com/packagingsecurity/tc1100.html [Rob SMTnet]

Get a hold of SMT Research as they are working on a system for this.

Can you have the designer to make a fixed area for this barcode? Meaning that you must have a position for this at the very same spot, unless your barcode system can be programmed to do barcode scanning on different spots, for different products/boards.. Sincerely, Mika
