Lead Contamination of wave solder carriers

Lead Contamination of wave solder carriers | 23 January, 2008

We have carriers that we use in wave flow solderers that are machined specifically for each board out of ESD composite.

I was wondering if anyone knows about lead contamination of this material and the cleaning of composite?

I know that it is a porous material so my concern is that the lead contamination will be too much to use it lead free even after cleaning.

Has anyone attempted to clean these and use them lead free or had them tested for levels of contamination?

Are you talking about Durastone? That's what we use for our wave pallets. Both our wave vendor and solder bar vendor told us that we had nothing to worry about as far as Pb-contamination of the pallets.

We have used the same pallets across our SnPb wave and Pb-free wave... We get our pots tested weekly and have never had high-Pb in our Pb-free pot.
