Fuji CP-6 Feeder Maintenance Programs | 22 October, 2007

Does anyone have a defined maintenance program for their Fuji CP-6 feeders. I am working with almost 2000 feeders and I am looking for what most techs use as a schedule. Also, any vendor sites that you get parts from. Also what is the best, long lasting lube that can be used on these feeders? I am currently using Biral T&D, but I am noticing a graphite lube on some of the newer feeders. What is the common practice on these?

The true way to track feeder maintenance is through a real time bar code reading system...For example Bartector. (We have never used this system nor do we receive any benefit from them)

We currently have our CP6 feeders set up on a three month interval.This seems to work OK. The only problem with this is the fact that you may be doing too little or too much maintenance depending on how many cycles the feeder has seen. We have experimented woth other intervals, and three months seems to work the best for us.

We track the maintenance with a Lotus Notes database.

As far as parts and Lube: Use Biral. We have experimented with other lube types such as Aero Shell turbine oil,WD40,LPS,and 3 in one. The Biral has been the best performer overall in my opinion. I am not sure why anyone would be adding graphite to feeders...never heard of that.

We buy most of our replacement FEEDER parts from Fuji. Although SMT Research and SMT parts also sell replacements.

We use Microsoft Access to track our feeders. I have made a system for the machine operators to tag the feeders when they run into problems. We seem to be having a lot of pitch issues. I am wokring on geting a calibration jig to solve that issue. We are also having a lot of problems with the mylar, especially on the 12x4 and 12x8 feeders. I am still not sure what is going on, but I am cleaning the tape leaf cover, changing the springs, and cleaning the O-ring in the take up wheel. I know most of these feeders have not been maintained in over a year, but I am 6 months new to being a feeder tech so any input will help.

You absoultely must have a calibration jig. You should be able to justify this on downtime alone.

Make sure your take up axles and white rollers are squeeky clean on the 12's. Also make sure that they are not running the cam speed too fast. We do not normally run the 12's higher than 70%

Fuji makes a test jig to check the clutch tension on the take up wheel.

What type of feeder storage carts do you use for your feeders? I have many of the Fuji CP-6 racks, but I have found the few Mossman Tebbs racks mor useful and safer for the feeders. I am constantly fixing damaged tape leaf covers from operators not latching them down after unloading them. The price of the tape leaf covers just amazes me. I am also looking for advice on different feeder storage options. Just something that I don't have to worry about the Pins on the W16-W24 castings snapping off when trying to remove them from the stands.

The newer style feeder carts from Fuji are the best I've seen. It is impossible to screw the tape covers up with the newer style racks.

I agree with the first response. We use Bartector which allows us to track each feeder per machine advance. This is the only true way to see how much a feeder is being used instead of putting it on a timed maintenance plan.

I would love to jump on a program like that, but allocating the resources is hard. I am going to need to put together a proposal on why all of this is going to be useful to people that do not understand. I am having a difficult time just writing up a proposal on the cost savings of a feeder jig. I am trying to figure out what the industry standard is for machine down time per hour. This is an up hill battle for me being in the industry for a little under a year now and not having much guidance. All this help is appreciated

Hello. In a stupid way I'm glad not to be alone in the feeder jungle. We have the same ammount of feeders with a mix of Fuji and Panasonic high spped feeders as the main problem. The way we do it at the moment is that we have marked up all with a number and a bar code to give us tracking options, and a month markin that we apply after they are maintained with the next month they shall in for maintenace again. The operators shall take out the feeders marked with the current month and place on a specified place. All 2x4 and 4x4 feeders we do every 3 month and the rest from 6 up to 12 month based on normal ammount of pickups they do. We normally start with a cleaning and lubrication of moving parts, an ocular check and then put it in the calibation jig for a verification. If everything is ok we give them a new marking of month, register their number in our excel file and then back to production, if they not ok and it is in the beginning of a month with a lot of feeders waiting for maintenance we put them aside for a while until we have gone thru the queue. After maintenance we put on a small strip at the take up wheel like a seal so we can se if the feeder are used since the last maintenance but offcoarse if it has been rigged but has not made any pickup we have can not se that. We use Biral atm, tryed some others but allways come back to Biral again as the best. Not sure about the teflon if it is good or bad but hope someone can give a feedback on that. I hope we soon will have new software installed in our production that make us able to track every feeders ammount of pickups, that will for sure help us to only maintain the right feeders, the one that have made a specified ammount of pickups or that are performing bad. Am I the only one allways hearing that "-The biggest problem we have in the production is bad feeders" but when you maintain them the jig says they are ok? This is how we do it. Jola.

Doing the research on the feeder jigs, I have found that certian jigs are not used in most places. I am hoping that some people with the different jigs can post their feedback on the jigs they have. I have been told that some of the 'cheaper' manufactured jigs do not have a constant output for where the feeder is calibrated. I am still trying to find someone with the Fuji All-In-One feeder jig to get feedback if it is worth the money. The one other thing that can be affecting the feeders down on the line is the calibration of your machine. You can have the best feeders in the world, but if your machine is not set up correctly there will always be problems. If you are having problems with your Fuji feeders and you are not running an offset for your parts, the machine will not adjust for the play in your feeders or for your machine being off just a little bit. I hope that everything helps.

The all in one jig is like 18K, and it only does CP6 and newer. We use the older Fuji jig that has a microscope on it. It works pretty good.

That is what I was hoping to hear. I found one of that sort of design and I am looking into it now. No beels or whistles, just a couple of heavy duty brackets, some calipers, and a microscope. 7K seems like a good price for me.

How long ago was this? I can't find anything under 7K. It is 17K for the Fuji all in one, the only one they sell. I am not even looking into the GAM20. The feeder master is the one that I am considering. If you find a better deal, I would be happy to look into it.

Hi, Inm also kind of new in this matter, I had noticed that the feeder tech before me did not used the correct spare parts. He used to mix all fuji parts as one. I prefer to use silicone lubricant( it wont become sticky) Alfredo Ronda Tyco safety products

We have tested the Feeder Master and I have to say, we are not impressed at all. The main thing that we thought would be great with it was to test the feeders in full speed, but you dont get any data out from the machine so you only end up waching the tape pass by in high speed and really dont se anything that helps you. I had hoped that you got an printout that told you how big the discrepancy were on the feeders pickup position. I dont know if this is fitted on the new model or if we did something wrong. The other thing was that we got it with the jigs for Fuji feeders but depending on that the Fuji jig was easier and more accurat we ended up using that one insted. The only thing that really is missing on the Fuji jig is the ability to test the peel back force on the take up reel but that was not worth the 15k they wanted for the Feeder master. Regards Joakim.
