Lead-free profile for big electrolytic cap | 7 September, 2007

We are having problem to develop lead-free (SAC305) reflow profile for big SMT electrolytic caps. The delta T of the joint of the cap with the rest of the board is too big to fit in the tighter lead-free window. Any suggestions regarding the total profile time, soak time, board/pad design, or any thing else? Thanks

How big is the cap ? We successfully reflow caps that measure aprrox .750" x 750" at the base and are .678" tall.

The ovens we use are Vitronics XPM's.(1230,1040 and 930) We also process these caps through our Omniflow 10.

As stated, oven length will definitely be a factor. You will have to most likely set up an extended soak profile.

Good afternoon,

Oops. Quite huge difference I must say. But you should try to tweak your profile anyway. First of all try to enlarge soak time as Mr. RDR has said. What process type do you use? Lead or lead-free? By the way, there are lead-free process materials on the market supporting RSS (ramp-soak-spike) profile. Do you have automatic profiling equipment?
