Double Sided Tape - Is That The Best? | 30 July, 2007

Sure, 99 percent of the planet uses 3M double-sided tape #666 tape in helping to verify first piece after a new placement program, but is that the best there is out there?

We have this 3X5 card sized "Sample - Double Stick Sheets," which [according to the attached information]: * Reuseable * Peels off PCBs with no residue * Does not tear * Clear enough for most fiducials to shoot through * Saves time and money - just peel back the blue protective covers

And on the other side - "Production Analysis, Inc., 803 Forepeak Drive, Forked River, NJ 08731 Phone/fax 609-936-4885 12" x 12" sheets $3.00 each Item No. PAI-12 8.5" x 11" sheets $2.00 each Item No. PAI-11

Shipping and handling $15.00 per order"

Lord knows we don't work for these guys or get anything from them, much less find or contact them [since the contact information above is useless], but it does seem like a very smart product.

What do yins use?

I think this is the same material we used in the past, and when we ran out could not get ahold of them. we have yet to find anything as good. were you saying you could not re-order as well and are looking for something new? check out tesa they make all types of double sided tapes, I am trying to find a best fit from them.

We buy a years worth of the 3M stuff and attatch the cost to a new customer. Guess there could be new and improved stuff out there, but without customer service, who's gonna buy it? Easier to go with what works.

What's a "yin"?

"Yins" means "yall." It could be "yinz" also. Look here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=yins

Good afternoon,

The last percent might be using Valors software :-) This is a cure for production I must say. They have developed next Valors version called Vplan. It has virtual sticky tape module and you can check first piece on PC by means of it. Really.

We have Siemens Siplace Pro software for our Siemens equipment that allows you to overlay the solder layer against the placement data to verify placement, part rotation and part size are correct.Since we have been using this software we have not needed double side sticky tape.We still have a few problems now and again but most of our issues are resolved before we send the job down to the line. This software is only for Siemens equip but the Valor software sounds like it is probably compareable.

There is a Virtual world out there

But in the REAL world where the part hits the board, all the software in the world can't predict part size descrepancy, polarity descrepancy, thickness error, or board tollerance errors.

Not to mention if the part was loaded in the correct position or if a inventory picked a wrong part.

You are correct! And that is why we still have a job.
