Who services your MYDATA machines? Do you have to have your software registered to get service? Are there independent field service techs out there? thx b

Hi,

We just had our local distributor do it for us, and they had a tech.

We use MyData direct up here in the New England. Always seemed easiest to me.

In a previous life, I did use an independent contractor. She used to work at MyData and serviced my machines in an even more previous life. Then branched out on her own. I don't know if she's still in business up here or not, so I can't help with contact info...sorry.

I'd suspect that there are some local tech's that'll work independently. I've also used friends from previous lives to work on current machines; it's always worked out for me.

cheers ..rob

In your experience how is MYDATA tech support? What do they charge? How is their response time? Do you have to register with them in order to get service? (i hear you have to register your software for apprx. $3500)

Their response time here has been excellent. Then again, their main US office is only an hour away from us, so, that may skew my opinion of their response time.

Cost is average. Around $120/hour, plus travel and parts.

Registering is an issue. They will not perform service on third party purchased machines, until you are registered with them. I'm not sure about the costs to register. I've discussed it with them in the past, and that $3500 you mention sounds pretty close. Just can't remember exactly.

I do know that the number sounded pretty reasonable to me; at least in context. A number of years ago, I tried to register a third party Zhentel with Teradyne. Cost for new software: $2500. Cost for on-site installation/training: $1000. Cost for Teradyne to scratch out the previous owners name, and write our name next to the s/n in their files: $5500. Ridiculous!
