Folks,

I may be havign a thick day, it is Monday afterall and it has been very sunny over the weekend. We have recently started buildign a fairly high volume of products that is using intrusive reflow on two PTH DIN connectors and havign soem good success. However my Maint Eng is non to pleased as he's starting to see a build up of Solder ont he heating surfaces of our ovens typically in the soak zones of the oven. Do other people have this issue?

Cheers

J

Hi J,

Yes, we do too. Funny thing is I was just looking at this last Friday. We call it sharing the bottom of the barrel. Typically it's just Process Engineers stuck down here, but from time to time, Maintenance gets stuck down here too. When intrusive reflow solder starts to reflow it drips / spatters, and you generally will get solder build up in the oven. Seen it with three distinctive types of paste too. Its not much per board but it does build up. Maintenance will have to adjust their PM schedule to compensate. If they complain just tell them its no different than finding the stray smt components that appear from time to time and makes me wonder why no one complains about them. Reassure them an oven manufacturer is designing an oven that has gravity compensators for this and the problem will go away once bought.

Because they know, even as they're vacuuming up those stray Rs and Cs, that somewhere, sometime, someone ELSE is going to get more grief than they are due to those missing parts.
