Siemens 80 S-20 problem | 21 February, 2007

I just had to replace the hard drive in the SC and the MC. I partitiones the MC drive and installed all operating systems.

The machine boots up and gets past "software booting", "conversion of machine data", and then hangs on "initializing machine". Does anyone know what the machine is looking for at this point? Addresses in the hosts files look good and I can ping between computers.

Chris,

It's been a while since I used a Siemens, but I was thinking its starting communication to Gantries, tables, and WPC for Axis zeroing.

Like I said its been awhile!

When replacing drive, did you copy the *.ma files back to the drive?

Tom

I did restore the .ma files, and yes, the computer does communicate with the gantries for zeroing. But the machine is still hung on "initializing machine". It never asks me to push the start button. It is like it is trying to collect necessary data before it can initialize, and it's having trouble finding this data.

Chris, Is there a job scheduled down to the machine? If you don't have it you can call Siemens hotline @1-888-smt-help. They will talk you through any problems that you encounter. John

No. The Sitest button is greyed out.

Can I install a regular windows version of NT 4.0, or does it have to be a Siemens version of windows?

ON the older S15's you booted Stest from a floppy. On newer machines you have the capabilities to switching to Stest without rebooting, Although you must be logged in as admin/Service Engineer. Thats why your button is greyed out. Try logging on in service mode. I do believe you default will be password unless you change it.

Chris, The machine is looking for a response from the LC. Usually, it will hang up from a corrupted .gf file. delete all the .gf files from the station. make sure you are NOT hooked up to the LC and/or LC turned off, put machine in stand alone mode. Software should load fine, then reconnect to LC, if it fails then, the LC isd sending a corrupt .gf file to the station. When loading software, Siemens has default .gf's that load, when hooked to LC the .gf's are pulled from the LC, if these .gf's don't match the machine will hang up at initalizing because of the .gf file.

You have to install the RMOS to MC's HDD. The RMOS Version must match with the station software. After Install RMOS you have to perform machine distribution.

Thanks for all the help. I have decided to clone the 2 hard drives from my good machine and put them in the broken machine. That will get my machine running but the 2 machines will be addressed the same.

Does anyone know what files to change to revert the machines new address to the original one?

I think it is in the ideal.ma or actual.ma file. You could also use the first RMOS boot disk. This will ask you for it there.
