Does anyone know of a source for salvaging column grid arrays with damaged columns (through bad handling or removed from a PCBA)? Not reballing, but recoluming.

Interesting. We are also facing this problem due to; once in a while a matrix tray is mishandled by the operators and as a result those very, very expensive components falls to the floor and the columns got bent. We manage somethime to "straighten them up" since they are "soft" but only if there is a minor column bent (bend?). You must keep in mind that those columns have another alloy compare to BGA bumps. I don't know but I can imagine that there would be very hard to re-attach new columns without to crack the component, since it will req. higher temps. compare to the re-balling process. Maybe others can correct me on this. I am sorry for my poor english. /Sincerly

Mika,

It's not my company, I've used them in the past to re-ball some BGA's for me.

They always do a moisture removal bake on moisture sensitve devices prior to ball attach, and then pack them in a vacuum sealed moisture barrier bag when they return your devices back to you.

They're out in the San Jose, California area, I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma now. But I used to work out that way and that's how I discovered them. I've done business with them for over 10-years and can vouch for the quality of their work.

I've never had to re-column any parts myself. But I'm sure that Six Sigma would do a good job...
