Any idea where I may purchase Durapol or Durastone material to fabricate a fixture for use in a reflow oven? Is there any other material (non-metal) that can be used for this application? Thanks!

Durostone CCR/Durapol IGM L200/Glastic CBC are the premier composites in the pallet industry.

The materials specification data listing below [DMI International 800-886-1468] represents typical results obtained from production materials commonly used. One thing to keep in mind: we are using the CAG grade of Durostone. It works excellent for leaded. We used existing CAG fixtures for builds that converted to ROHS and eventually damaged them as they warped enough to affect the print job. If you are looking at ROHS application, you will want to find a material suited for that.

Thanks guys! Very helpfull info. SWAG, the manufacturer states that this material can withstand up to 350 Celsius for a short time period (around 10-20 seconds). It is my understanding that Durostone absorbs heat very very slowly like ceramic thus, for it to reach 350 Celsius or 260 C for that matter would either mean that the air temperature in the oven is very high, that the fixture is kept in the oven for an extended period of time, or a combination of both. Am I reading their specs right or do they mean that the material can be exposed to environments with temperatures up to 350 C for a short period of time?

This stuff isn't cheap . . . $620 for a 4ft. x 4ft. 6mm thick sheet so I would like to be sure it will work for us. I wonder how many bottles of Courvoisier are included.

Which fixture material is LEAST LIKELY to warp? Please advise.

We used ta have a Wave Optimizer but the corpulent engineer before me broke it before he left the company. Anywho, my next project is to design a wave fixture pallet which will work with my SlimKIC 2000. The ability to NOT TO WARP is a must, as I'll be using this to record dwell time and parallelism readings.

A little more detail on our application: It is a large fixture (approx. 15" x 18") that spans the chain fingers in the reflow. It has several cut-outs and reductions in thickness to allow for better heat distribution. It worked well/stayed flat for hundreds of passes in leaded temps. The build was transitioned to ROHS and we saw about a 1/16" sag in a realtively short period of time. We built new ones for print + P&P and confined the warped ones to reflow only. If your design is relatively small and sturdy, you should have little trouble. If it is large and somewhat delicate, you might need to look at different material or stiffener rails. We have not looked into nor tried new materials at this time.
