Help identify missing smt component | 7 August, 2006

I have a PC graphics card that has a damaged component and I have no clue what it is. The other two that look identical are black flat top with which looks like a mini copper coil in the middle and two leads on each side. They are the last component before the signal leaves the card for the monitor. There is a silkscreen of L511 next to the component.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's inductor [choke] number 511. Probably used for EMI suppression on the monitor line. Look here: * http://www.antennex.com/shack/Dec99/beads.htm

That's exactly what I thought but needed a second opinion. I found a part that matches the size, dimensions and two coil but am unsure which impedance it would be.

Thanks for your input!

Bourns is quite a high end name in the electronics industry & you usually pay a premium for percieved Swiss precision engineering. If your card is far east built it is much more likely to have an inductor on from Murata, Panasonic, or one of the Chinese brands such as Hung Tai. Saying that most of the charactoristics are pretty similar so you may be lucky with whatever Digikey has on the shelf.

Can you see the little dots on top of part? there should be three colored dots. If you can see then that tells you the value.

It seems that mouser and digikey don't carry that part anyway. If I where to remove one of the existing ones, is there a way to test it?

Here are some pictures.

Should be some numbers on the top of the other two. If you can read them we can get you the right part info. it also looks as though you have some trace and pad damage that will require repair prior to you putting down new part.

Or you can remove one of the others and measure with an LCR meter I suppose.

Do we know how this part was damaged? Hopefully the issue will be resolved before placing the new part.
