Hi Guys

Just received a second hand (1998) MPM UP2000 Paste printer. Can anybody let me know about the tricky issues (not in the manual) to look for and what are the common spares we should have on stand by. Should we have an expert helping us installing? Are there any experts in Singapore or India willing to fly to Sri Lanka?

UP 2000 is a good printer. Spares are normal - blades, stencil/board light bulbs, the over head flourecent, get new conveyor belts. Take the cover off the tactile sensor and make sure it's clean also. Other than that it should be a work horse.

LIsten I'll have to diagree with you there.Now Im not the biggest expert at screen printing at my place of employment its a different department than wave which is my primary expertice but I see those UP20000 printers are always down with problems. The last guy who no longer works here told me he didnt like them and they should of chose DEK. Ive seen some of the gull leads that the AI dept solders and lot of them look suspicsious.Not sure if its profile related but I dont like that you cant see a toe fillet on some of them. Bottom line Id have to agree with the guy who no longer works here.The UP printer is not the right choice

I forgot to answer Smartasp's question of having an "expert" install the machine. But I see WML is on the case. Smartasp - hire Larry and he can get your MPM up and running by replacing it with a DEK.

Smart-

The UP2000 is one of the most durable and easiest to operate fully automated printers ever to be designed. I would almost venture to say it was the best printer MPM ever made. Issues with them usually revolved around good or bad maintenance practices. Keeping the machine free of errantly dropped paste in the worknest and around leadscrews etc. will go a long way on how consistent and repeatable this machine will be.

You've made a good choice. Keep the machine clean and you'll love it. Aside from what Chunks suggested, I would carry a few input/output optical modules. The electronics on these machines are excellent but when I have seen issues it's almost always with those modules. They're cheap and you would be wise to have a few of each around.

Installation and training is a snap as well. Heck I've trained operators how to run these machines that didn't even speak English so you know they have to be easy to understand if that's the case. Best of luck and if you have any other questions....this is the place to post them. There are many UP-2000 experts that troll this site as well as a few guys that carry all spare parts you would ever need for these printers.

WTF?

You're not bringing anything to the table when you make judgements/opinions on issues you have no knowledge of....so maybe you ought to just stick to commenting when a wave issue pops up. I know they don't come up often enough for you and you're dying to post but you have no knowledge of screen printing, reflow ovens and placement machines...so why waste everyone's time?

Almost 4-got. Get some squeegee blade detents. They're the little spring loaded things that keep the squeegee blades in place in the head, until the machine locks them in place. they tend to wear out if you do a lot of blade swapping. Fastek also has some good input - I think I'll take his advise as well. Best of luck

Larry, Are you a glutton for punishment, a masochist, just so sure that your answers are right and or important, or are you just REALLYYY bored at work and decided to be a dumb ass on the forums.. Loading boards into a flow solder machine for 12 years just might not cut it for becoming a consultant. Consulting is not the easiest proffesion in the world. You can try it and I recomend that you do. I hope that you will come away with valuable life lessons. Please post if there is some valuable information (specific) that you have. FYI, Chunk is right about the blade detents if you have the Pro-head. If you don't have that head, you will not need them. If you mount your blades using thumb screws, you can stop looking for the detents!!

Ours ran very well, keep it CLEAN. We used the tooling plate work nests. Takes awhile to set up and may not be the best thing for low volume but the machine should print fine.
