Hi, do you know where and how we can tests 0402 ceramic capacitors? We would like to test them individually before we place them on our board; so as to get some test yield and the distribution of the parameters of this component based on the published datasheet. These components are so small and we have problem testing them.

thanks, JanM

Hello JanM,

Are you wanting to do sample testing off the reel? Is this for incoming inspection?

You may need this: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?pname&site=us;lang=en;name=243-1059-ND

The Smart Tweez is a compact RCL meter (You can measure voltage as well). We use a couple of them and they work very well for small components.

If you're wanting to do production testing, a flying prober or ICT will work. Keep in mind the ICT is further down-steam in the production process. Based on the structure of your inquiry, it sounds like you want to test the caps pre-build.

Sorry about the broad response, but your question is vague. What do you mean by "...where and how we can test 0402 ceramic capacitors?" (out source?) Please be more specific with your question. You will get better responses.

Hi Reese, thanks for the reply. Yes we want to do sample testing off the reel; just to gather the distribution of the component. I cannot view the link you gave me... However the Smart Tweez is something.

thanks, JanM

Make sure you understand there is a wide margin of measurement error when measureing some values of capacitors.
