Has anyone ever heard of 0201 components being placed by Fuji CP43 machines? Engineering wants to do an experiment here to see if it's practical.

I couldn't see that it would be pratical at all. The older CP-6 machines need a camera upgrade to even place view the parts and you need a pristine CP6 feeder to run the part. If you do plan on trying, I wish you the best of luck.

I have never heard of this being done. The limitation is the camera. Also, I am not aware of anyone making CP4 nozzles for 0201's.

If you want a Fuji that will do 0201's get a CP642 and upgrade the camera, or buy a CP643.(643's are set up for 0201's from the factory)

SMT Research has offered to sell us 0.4mm nozzles for tests. Even if the camera worked with the nozzles and parts (which I doubt) I don't think the CP4 has the x-y accuracy to place 0201s well. We'll see, they are ordering the nozzles, test parts and a test panel.

I would say that if your machine is low hours and "tight" it should be mechanically capable. The vision will be the problem.

Good Luck.

Sorry Keith but is not possible to place 0201 parts on the CP43 machine. THe XY table is not tight enough on the resolution or the Z height. The parts camera will not be able to tell the part from the nozzle. THe CP6-4000 machine can not do 0201 parts because of the placement of the X axis ball screw is off to the side and causes a whipping action when it stops. The only solution is a low hour or refurbished CP642/643 or CP7/8.

Engineering tried it with special made .4 nozzles (which we could never get to pass a center test reliably) but the results were less than spectacular. The reject and bad placement rates were high so that idea was abandoned.
