Pick N Place UPS

Greetings,

Would like to buy a 3 phase UPS for our Mydata TP11. Been looking and generally, sales person's point of view, 10KVA @ $10,000.00 is what they recommend. Seems a lot to me??? Called Mydata and suggested 2.2KVA per phase. I would purchase the 10KVA but would like to know what everybody else is doint out there as far as UPS is concerned for PnP mach. We're located in Fl. and UPS is not an option.

While I'm not sure about older Mydata machines, mine has a substantial battery backup that was standard equipment. The machine performs an orderly shutdown and saves a status for the current assembly. When the power comes up you simply reboot and continue where you left off.

I've had power drop on me twice, both times it rebooted and just kept building. Saved the board status as well! Brownouts will cause your fuses to warm up a bit but if you do blow a fuse, replace the fuse and continue building as if you had a power outage.

No muss, no fuss... don't need a UPSs...

I appreciate you're input on this, John, Scott. It's a neat thing Mydata did with the power out, status saved feature. That comes in handy a lot down here. The problem is with our machine, however, "I think", is that we have one of our phases go out intermittently. When one of the leg goes out, for a millisecond, it locks up all the MOT boards of the machine. The machine still runs but I get a lot of fatal error on XYZ moves. When this happens I have to shut the machine down but the mach don't shut down all the way. MOT boards stays on and have to reset the whole thing for it to shut down copletely and after that everything is okay again. By the way, Utility is working on monitoring our power as we speak. Besides the problem above, we get some mean lightning down here so a UPS should help cut down on the current surges.

Power conditioning is a different topic than UPS. Your utility company should be able to provide service reports for your grid on up time and service integredity. Also, consider what happens inside your plant when pointing the finger on service quality and reliability. I can distinctly remember a period when a wash and wave system was added to a 400 amp service panel in my plant and everytime the pumps and blowers turned on the three Fuji P&P machines stopped with OS errors (fatal). Transient drops in voltage are as damaging as missing cycles.
