Well sure, the Chinese want to play mess up the world too!! This one has got to be power trip, and I would bet my bottom dollar that their RoHS only applies to import products.

This is not going to affect us much because China is more exporting then importing.

Can�t wait for the EU commissions decision on the lead in solder used in the electronics exempt request which received 287 public support letters as of today.

No exempt request received so much support as this one; the fine pitch exempt granted to swatch did not receive any public support and was granted (lets cross our fingers).

Patrick, not to change the subject, but where would you suggest I go for a comprehensive report with some valid data references on the environmental impact of lead free vs. leaded solder use in electronics?

Any "literature" that you get saying that RoHS is actually BETTER for the environment, is probably "all made up" with fake data, charts, graphs, etc. (a fat guy once told me that, that's all I know how to do..make fake data, charts, graphs, etc...)

If anything, there's mounds of data that support that RoHS actually WORSE for the environment!!

Here's a (427 page) EPA report on Solders in Electronics: A Life-Cycle Assessment http://www.epa.gov/opptintr/dfe/pubs/solder/lca/lfs-lca-final.pdf

If you look at page ES-16/table ES-4 and ES-5 it appears that SAC alloys have a higher impact on the environment compared to Sn/Pb in areas: Non renewable resource use, Energy use, Global warming, Ozone depletion and Water Quality.

The credit for finding these reports belongs to John Burke (RoHSUSA) If his exempt request gets approved we all need to chip in and arrange for a �lead� statue in his home town of Santa Clara - California � USA.

And by the way Samir there is no data that lead-free is better for the environment. The green flag has been used and abused for economic benefits. Look where the tin, silver and copper prices are today.
